The number of smartphones in use worldwide is now over the 1 billion mark, according to Strategy Analytics.

That is an amazing milestone and a whole lot of smartphones. It is equivalent to one seventh of the global population and one sixth of mobile phone subscribers. The research showed that it has taken 16 years to reach this 1 billion mark, and they anticipate the second billion will be reached in only 3 years (2015).

There is a ton of great mobile user data available if you are interested in learning more about this.

So what shall we do with this overwhelming data?
